USS DEFIANT NX-74205 – Blender 2.79

This model started life way back in 2012 using Milkshape 3D. Due to the 32k polygon limit, I never finished it and the file sat on my hard drive gathering dust until late 2018 when I thought my skills with Blender had progressed sufficiently to finish it (I’m no expert with Blender, I’m barely scratching the surface of what it can do).

The ‘Defiant’ was constructed using the blueprints and various reference photos contained in the ‘Star Trek Files’.

So, here is the revamped model which utilises 100% procedural textures.

4 Render Layers have been set up to produce 4 ‘space’ images and 1 image that depicts the Defiant as a ‘scale model’ based on the Revel model kit – complete with display base.

Note – the render layer ‘Space_Top’ contains 2 cameras, one for the front image (default) and one for the rear. Remember to activate the relevant camera before rendering.

This model comes with a node group that I created for generating a starfield background image which is active by default. When rendering the ‘Scale Model’ layer, make sure you disconnect the ‘Starfield Background’ node group and connect the ‘White Background’ node. Also remember to reconnect the ‘Starfield Background’ for space scenes.
