This is a block Pinscreen file that I made for use in backgrounds and in film projects. The “pegs” are controlled by the texture attached to the Grid, and rise and fall based on the shade of that texture via displacement map. It’s possible to make a grid like embossing (as in the picture) as well as animated pinscreen style animations by using a high contrast movie clip as a texture. Just replace the crude copy of the BlendSwap logo, make sure that the UV’s line up, and render!
