Compositor Find & Replace

Batch-rename the selected File Output nodes and frames in the Compositor. Two fields, two checkboxes, and a live preview of every change before you commit it.

Renaming a shot or a pass by hand means clicking through the directory, the file name, the label and every input of every File Output node in the tree. This does all of them at once.

What it changes

On every selected File Output node:

• Directory
• File Name
• Label
• The name of every input

On every selected frame:

• Label

Nothing else in the node tree is touched, and unselected nodes are left alone. Node names — the internal identifiers that drivers and scripts reference — are deliberately not changed.

Live preview

The Preview panel lists each affected node and shows old → new for every field, updating as you type. It shows what Blender will actually store, not just what your replacement produced: input names end up in file and layer names, so Blender rewrites characters that are not allowed there and keeps names unique within a node. If a replacement would collide, you see pass and pass_001 in the preview before you press Replace.

Regular expressions

Tick Regular Expressions to use a pattern instead of literal text. Backreferences work in either spelling:

Named groups (\g<name>) work too. With the checkbox off, everything is literal — ., +, [01], backslashes and dollar signs all mean exactly themselves.

Case Sensitive applies to both modes and is off by default.
